Hi all, For those of us who received sidewalk violations from the NYC Department of Transportation last week and are looking at options for contractors, perhaps we could create an ad hoc cc email list to share information. If you are interested, contact Paisley and Lisa at pcurrah [you know the symbol] gmail.com. Also, I contacted our City Council Member, Al Vann, yesterday and his staff suggested I contacted our local community board. I talked to someone there, and forwarded her a copy of my violation. She is going to contact her contact at the NYC DOT and find out about an extension, given that the notices were sent out so late. Best, Paisley

Historic Street Signs

I was very happy to see our new historic street signs. Unfortunately, the sign on the southeast side of New York Avenue was spelled Bergen "Steet." I notified Community Board 8. They informed me that the Crown Heights North Association would take care of it, since they paid for the sign. I will follow up. If you see any other misspelled signs, please post it or call Community Board 8 (718) 467-5574.

Thank you.

Another Shooting....

This evening I noticed Dean Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues was closed off to traffic. I silently prayed and hoped that it wasn't another shooting. Sadly, I heard moments ago that it was indeed a fatal shooting.

The past two weeks have been plagued with violence, all within a one-mile radius. This is heart-wrenching and it must be stopped. You may think that one person perhaps can't make a difference, but that way of thinking is going to have to change. The street motto of "snitches get stitches!" has to go. If you see something say something.

We cannot be prisoners in our own homes. We all have a voice; let's use it. Perhaps many of you are right--one person may or may not make a difference. If we stand together our voices will echo to the 77th Precinct and 1 Police Plaza that we deserve the same protection that Crown Heights South (south of Eastern Parkway) receives on a daily basis--we pay taxes too!!!!

Once the community support is there, these thugs will take notice and respect the fact that this community will no longer accept living in fear. We must stop living our lives as if these robberies, rapes and murders are the norm--I refuse to accept it!!!

There is strength in numbers...your homes are your sanctuaries, but in order to enter your sanctuaries you must walk on these streets. Stop pretending that if crime is happening a block away it doesn't affect you and your family--you're wrong!!

Join your block association, attend the 77th Precinct meetings as well as the Community Board monthly meetings.

We've worked too hard to come this far to relinquish our hard work to these thugs!!!

Let's take back our neighborhood!!!
